Baked some iPhone cookies to trick cops into pulling me over, then I just take a bite and ask if cookies are against the law.
"I’m just a fat guy sitting in the cold."
“Why are you sitting in the cold?”
“I’m waiting to go to work. I work an overnight security job. I live in Philly, but I take the bus up here and stay for four days each week. I can’t find work in Philly and I’ve got two kids.”
“Where do you sleep?”
“Starbucks, McDonalds, anywhere I can take a quick nap.”

"I grew up on a rice farm in Guyana. We didn’t have running water or electricity, or anything like that. I didn’t come to America until I was 14. My friend has been struggling lately because she can’t get a job she wants, even though she’s really talented. She’s lived in New York her whole life and hasn’t travelled very much, and she said to me: ‘I don’t understand why anyone would want to immigrate to America.’ I told her:
“Trust me— if there’s a heaven, this is it.’”
I’ll never forget what you did but I can let go and forgive. I will not hold onto anger, it will only poison my own mind. I won’t let you hold me back. I won’t be destroyed by you or what you inflicted on me. I will grow from it. I will become stronger. I am reborn. We can always reinvent ourselves. We are not defined by our pasts. We don’t know what our future holds. We can only live our lives to the fullest right here, right now; in this present moment.
“Do you know what people really want? Everyone, I mean. Everybody in the world is thinking: I wish there was just one other person I could really talk to, who could really understand me, who’d be kind to me. That’s what people really want, if they’re telling the truth.”
Nobel Prize winner for the Golden Notebook, Doris Lessing dies today at 94.
Doris Lessing died yesterday. I can’t say she was one of my favourite authors, because I’ve only read one of her books — but I can say that The Golden Notebook is one of my favourite books. Do yourself a favour and pick it up today.(via billowingclouds)
Do you have any things you would have done differently, or any advice to give?
Advice I don’t go in for. The thing is, you do not believe I know everything in this field is a cliché, everything’s already been said, but you just do not believe that you’re going to be old. People don’t realize how quickly they’re going to be old, either. Time goes very fast.
